Group B Script @ Penabur Kota Wisata

Group B Script @ Penabur Kota Wisata

Script from Rachel and Shu Lin (for Day 2)

On our trip to the PETA Museum, we learnt how indonesians are proud of their history. The spirit of the Indonesians are truly admirable. We can learn from the determination of the indonesians against the Japanese Occupation to fight for freedom and to resist the Dutch.
Next, we we went to the Presidential Palace. We learnt how Indonesia honour their past president, and shows their pride in Indonesia's national history and culture as they take pride in preserving the belongings of their previous presidents. We we also introduced to the meaning behind the symbol of the Indonesia's flag, crest and motto.
At the Bogor Cultural Village, we had the opportunity to learn a traditional dance from the instructor, as well as martial art, silat. We also made a puppet using rice stalks and trumpet using bamboo leaves. During that time, we bonded alot with Penabur Kowis students.
From that day experience, we learnt to appreciate Singapore more, as well as the simplest things in life. We can apply these values to our daily lives, especially on how we can be thankful to what we have, and not whine about the slightest thing.

Script from Victoria (for Day 3):

Good morning teachers and friends of Penabur Kota Wisata. I am Victoria. First of all, I would like to thank all of you for helping us plan such wonderful event for the past few days. My schoolmates and I have experienced a total different culture and learned many new skills. An example would be us visiting the Science Center, where we saw really cool things such as the illusion room where our buddies aid us in translating the information from to sign boards, and we had fun together. Also, we went to Tarman Mini and experienced the places where people in different parts in Indonesia live in and learn about the culture. One of the interesting house we visited was the Papua house where natives came from Irinjaya and the most interesting fact about them was their puberty ritual and mummification that are kept in their house. This is interesting as it is something we can only see through television, while here in Indonesia, it make us curious about these different cultures. Most importantly, from this trip, I have learned a very important lesson where Indonesia is a multi racial country, and like what the motto says, all are united with diversity.

Script from Aqiff (for Day 4):

Day 4 was mainly teaching the primary school students basic mathematics and english, and visiting the Pa Van Der Steur Orphanage. Overall, everyone had a fun experience, and not to mention memorable and fruitful.
Through the teaching experience, we gained a deeper understanding on what it means to be a leader. It was necessary to take the initiative and have the courage to bring about progress for the lessons. Through this, we learned to be patient and accepting.
As for the Orphanage visit, it was noticed that the children, although not as fortunate as others, still learned to cope with their hardships and were very independent. Thier rooms were very neat and had number of house rules which made us realise that we are fortunate with what we have and should not take things for granted. The Orphanage students were approachable, friendly, caring, and amazingly talented. We found out that the guitarist of the performance had self taught himself of the skills. Even though there was a language barrier, they still participated actively in the conversations. The guys also took a different approach for ice breakers, having played soccer instead. How appreciative they were, had heartened us as well.

This marks the end of our blog. Thank You everyone for reading and seeing what we experienced in this short 5 Days 4 Night Student Leader Trip to Jakarta, Indonesia.

Jakarta Trip Day 5 - Group B

Jakarta Trip Day 5 - Group B

Today marks the last day of our student leaders' trip to Jakarta, Indonesia. We visited Penabur Kota Wisata, their 8 storey high, school.

When we arrived, the emcees and students from the student council gave us a warm welcome.

Their current president of the student council, then shared with us their school vision, mission, student council field, school and many more

To get to know one another better, we started of with a simple ice breaker. Post-it Notes with Number were pasted below our chair. A story with numbers were told. When we hear our number, we would have to stand out and shout our name, as loud as possible.

We also had a short break, before having a tour around the school

The principal of the school, thank us for our visit and is excited to send their students, to Singapore, and visit North Vista Secondary in Jan - Feb

Day 5 - Group A

This is the final day of our Student Leader's trip to Jakarta. We will be spending our day at Penabur 7. Activities were planned for us at their school to expose us to Indonesia!

At their school, we were split into 3 groups for 3 different activities. Home Industry, Music and Dance. We collaborated with the Penabur 7 students !

The students at Home Industry did handicrafts. They did the handicrafts out of daily life items such as plastic bottles.

Next, the Music students performed a traditional song in collaboration with the Penabur 7 students.

Lastly, the Dance students danced to a traditional dance. This is a very popular dance in their school ! They have won many competitions !

dance collaboration between both schools

Penabur 7 prepared some performances for us. To thank them for their hospitality and for the collaboration, we prepared a sing-dance item, 'Count on me' by Bruno Mars to represent the friendship that was built between both schools.

After that, we exchanged gifts and bid farewell to our buddies. It was indeed a very memorable moment as we spent most of our time in Jakarta with them. They had taught us a lot of things, patiently translating from Bahasa Indonesia to English for us. We took photos with our buddies throughout these 5 days.

After the activities at Penabur 7, we had to leave for the airport to return back to Singapore. Although it was a 5 days 4 nights trip, we truly enjoyed ourselves and was really sad we had to leave Indonesia.

This ends up our Twinning Programme with Penabur 7 students and this Student Leader's Trip to Jakarta! We hope the Penabur 7 students enjoyed as much as we did! Thank you for being such amazing hosts and being so patient and caring towards us. We sure did enjoy ourselves! We really appreciate it and we hope to see you in Singapore next year !
